How to remove wiper blade arms. Release lever style. our revolutionary silicone wiper blades come in 101 colors replace wiper blades.

How to remove windshield wiper blade arms step by step.
Release lever style.

Many vehicles have a little lever that releases the wiper blade arm. To release these style wiper arms lift the wiper arm abut 4 to 6 inches off the windshield. Then use a small screw driver to pry the releases lever out slightly about 1/8 inch. Then let the wiper arm back down until it rests on the release lever. The wiper blade will stop and hang off the glass about 2 inches. If the wiper blade rests back on the windshield you did not pry the lever out far enough. Lift the arm up again and pry the lever out again until the wiper blade hangs above the windshield when you let the arm back down towards the windshield.

Now before you lift the whole wiper and wiper arm off the post. Make sure you remove one at a time or mark the wiper blade arms because the driver side may be different then the passenger side. On many vehicles the driver side arm has a longer wiper blade on it.

Caution!

Make sure you check to check to see where the wiper sits on the windshield because some posts do not have a pin that only lets you only install the wiper arm in one position. You may even want to measure how far the wiper rests above the bottom cowl. Most wipers will sit about level on the windshield. You may want to place a piece of masking tape or mark where the wiper blade sits with a marker. The 2000 Chevy Pickup we used here for the photos has a pin that lets you install the arm in only one position but many vehicles do not.

Once you are certain where the wiper rests on you windshield you are ready to gently lift the wiper and wiper arm off the wiper post. Just grab the wiper arm next to the post and gently lift up. It should come off easily.

Now you are ready to replace the wiper arm.
Slide the arm back on to the post. If the post has a pin just line up the pin with the notch on the wiper arm and slide it on to the post. If your style does not have the post pin, hold the wiper arm with the wiper blade level and slide it back on where you marked the windshield so the wiper blade will sit in the correct position. The wiper blade will still be sitting about 2 inches off the windshield. Lift the wiper arm up so the blade is 4 to 6 inches off the windshield then push the lever back in and let the wiper arm down until the wiper blade touches the windshield. If the wiper blade is not in the correct position repeat the steps until it sits where you marked the windshield.
